The tales of class exploitation during the so called Gilded Age of American history are held up by leftists as shining examples of how capitalism failed the majority. The stories of the barbaric and inhumane conditions that the working class had to endure to earn a wage are horror stories taught to our kids to scare them about capitalism and make them view it like a system that only the devil could love. The other side to the story of class exploitation in the US is one that has not received one bit as much attention. That other side is class exploitation by leftists. The only difference here being the system used to inflict the exploitation on the nation's laborers.

Leftist class exploitation takes the form of so called "welfare" programs such as welfare and social security. These programs pull their recipients into a world of poverty and government dependence for survival. Those who depend on social security for example are unable to afford many of the things that those who invested money into IRA's are able to afford. The left will not allow unlimited investment into IRA's because the easiest way for them to control people is to make them dependent on the government for basic necessities. It is no secret that life on social security alone is not one bit as pleasant as life could be if the social security recipient had invested money into an IRA prior to retirement. Unlike the government, private investment companies have a vested interest in making the retirement program work because they face harsh liability suits and damage to their reputations if they fail to provide a quality service.

What leftists will not admit to is that they don't want to create a classless utopia because in such a society they will not be able to retain control over the people. In a classless society the wealth that prominent leftists previously had would be meaningless and they would be seen for the hypocrites that they are. They would lose power quickly because they had not given up their wealth prior to the establishment of the classless utopia. History has shown that those prominent leaders of the socialist/communist "revolutions" will not give up their power once they have gained the total control over society that they need to make the "utopia" possible. So instead of creating a classless society which would not be impossible to create if they were to give up their wealth, they create a 2 class society. In this two class there are the extremely wealthy ruling class and the very poor laborers. The poor are the slaves of the rich in such a society and the evil of class exploitation now becomes a government institution. Such countries have existed and continue to exist; any country with a socialist or communist government is an example of this.

Despite their claims to be humanitarians who fight against the evil of the private sector in the name of the human spirit, socialists and communists have no intentions on liberating, only enslaving. They will do whatever is necessary to destroy a capitalist state, even if the overwhelming majority of the people prefer the freedom of somewhat regulated capitalism, the leftists will work to overthrow the system anyway. Their know-what's-best-for-you attitude is only one part of a problem which was responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people in the 20th century.

Regardless of what people may think, class exploitation and poverty will never go away regardless of how advanced and wealthy we become. Despite the obvious examples throughout history, socialists and communists still will not accept the fact that they hurt the poor and working class far more than capitalists do because they impoverish the nation and take away any hope of upward mobility. The only way to help the poor is to create a system which rewards those who strive for excellence and those who use their talents with wealth because only a system like that would generate the kind of wealth necessary to fund charities and private social programs.
